LEVEL 1 · INFORM
"Look into it. Report."
It gathers; you decide everything.
LEVEL 2 · RECOMMEND
"Options + your pick."
It analyses and suggests; you choose.
LEVEL 3 · APPROVE
"Tell me, don't do it unless I say yes."
It acts only after you approve (write_approval).
LEVEL 4 · OVERRIDE
"Do it unless I say no."
It proceeds; you can still stop it.
LEVEL 5 · REPORT
"Take action. Tell me what you did."
Independent in low-stakes work; reports after.
LEVEL 6 · AUTONOMOUS
"No further contact required."
Only for repetitive, inconsequential tasks.
The rule of the ladder: trust is earned per task, not granted at once. Before raising a rung, ask: can I verify the output is right, and is the action reversible? If not, stay one rung lower. Augmentation, not automation — keep the steering wheel for anything that matters.
