What's free
OpenCode Desktop is a free download for Mac, Windows and Linux. It comes with free models through OpenCode Zen, OpenCode's own model service, so you can start without an account or a card.
Which free model to pick
Free models differ in what happens to your prompts. A new install picks Big Pickle, whose provider may use your prompts to improve the model during its free period. DeepSeek V4.1 Flash keeps no copy and isn't trained on your prompts, so pick it for course work. All free models run on an outside service: send only made-up or approved data. Free models can change or disappear without notice.
When you'd pay
Only for stronger models: through OpenCode's paid plans or credit, or by connecting an account you already have with a model provider. Current prices are on the OpenCode tool page. Checked 23 October 2026 on OpenCode Zen (opens in a new tab).
