Most readers should start on Free or Pro ($20) and move up only when they hit limits every week.

Prices checked 23 September 2026 (perplexity.ai/pricing, USD): Max is $200 per month (Pro $20, Free $0). For a team, Enterprise Max costs $271 per seat per month billed annually and adds no training on your data, SCIM, audit logs and retention settings.
Running effort is the same as any Perplexity account. On a personal plan, switch off Settings → AI Data Usage if you don't want your searches used to improve Perplexity's models.
Restrictions

Before paying $200, prove you need it. Take one recurring task, for example a weekly scan of new papers in your field or of competitors' product announcements.
Run it on Pro for two weeks. Note each time you hit a limit, and what you were doing.

Run one Model Council comparison on a question where you know the right answer, and see whether the extra models add anything.
You're done when you can say, in one sentence, which limit Max removed and what that was worth to you. If you can't, go back to Pro.
