What you can do

  • OpenWork is a free, open-source desktop app for Windows, Mac and Linux in which an AI agent works on the files in a folder you choose. It is built on OpenCode and adds a window for people who don't use a terminal: chats, approvals for each file change, reusable skills and a built-in browser. You bring your own model, including a local one. An optional cloud service shares skills, connections and models with a team.

Before choosing

  • Sharing with access control, connectors for services such as Gmail or Slack, and scheduled tasks need a sign-in to OpenWork Cloud, a US service, or your own server. New versions appear about once a week, so menus move. Small local models often fail at the multi-step tool use an agent needs.

Locally Uncensored

What you can do

  • Locally Uncensored is a free, open-source desktop app for Windows and Linux that runs AI models on your own computer. One program holds a chat window with document questions, image and video generation through ComfyUI, a coding agent and phone access to your own PC. The chat engine is built in, and a first-start wizard downloads a model. The maker also sells hosted graphics cards as LU Cloud.

Before choosing

  • No Mac desktop build. The Windows installer is not code-signed. The starter models offered at first start have their refusals removed; standard models are a separate list. Without a graphics card, answers are slow.

What you can do

  • DeepSeek's open-source agent harness: runs a coding agent in a web UI, a terminal job or an automation API.

Before choosing

  • Pre-release. Session telemetry is on in feedback-only mode by default; set DSH_TELEMETRY_MODE=DISABLED to turn it off.

Jev

View profile
AI modelsCloud

What you can do

  • Jev is TypeSafe AI's hosted System One model for making typed decisions inside software. Give it text or structured text state and ask narrow questions of three kinds: a Choice picks one option from a set you define, a Score rates the input against levels you describe, and a Noul is a yes-or-no question. Each answer comes with probabilities your code can use for routing, classification and scoring. It does not generate prose or code and cannot replace a chat or coding-agent LLM. The documented Jev 1.13 version is available through TypeSafe's API in early access. Start with a decision in your own workflow and keep the final action in your application code.

Before choosing

  • Jev is a decision model, not a generative LLM: no chat, prose generation, code writing, images, audio or video input. The publisher documents 64k tokens per request and a 32k limit for state plus the longest question for jev-1.13.0. Confidence describes the distribution and does not guarantee an individual answer is correct; the publisher documents failures on counting, date arithmetic, indirection and adversarial text. Requires TypeSafe cloud access and an API key; prices and rate limits may change. No local weights or hands-on performance evaluation were established.

Supabase

View profile
Development & infrastructureCloud · Self-hosted
Free tierOpen source

What you can do

  • Supabase is an open-source platform built on PostgreSQL that gives an app a database, sign-in, an automatic API, file storage and a web dashboard called Studio. Row-level security policies decide which rows each signed-in person may read or change. It runs as a managed cloud service or self-hosted with Docker on your own server, and app builders such as Lovable are built to work with it.

Before choosing

  • The self-hosted version lacks the cloud's managed backups and point-in-time recovery, branching, advanced metrics and the management API, runs one project per install and is community-supported. The secret key bypasses every row-level security policy and must never reach a browser.

Microsoft 365 Copilot

What you can do

  • Microsoft 365 Copilot (recently renamed Microsoft Copilot) is Microsoft's AI assistant for Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams. Copilot Chat, the web-grounded chat, comes free with eligible Microsoft 365 work or school plans. Some work plans now also include standard access to Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote (the "Basic" licence). The paid Microsoft 365 Copilot licence adds priority access and automatic grounding in the organisation's own emails, files and meetings through Microsoft Graph.

Before choosing

  • Only Copilot Chat is free, and even then only for users signed in with a Microsoft Entra work or school account; a personal Microsoft account does not receive Microsoft's enterprise data protection. Automatic grounding in an organisation's own files, emails and meetings needs the paid Microsoft 365 Copilot add-on licence, not Copilot Chat.

Heidelberg AI Desk

Free

What you can do

  • Heidelberg AI Desk, made by the curriculum's own team, installs and runs server tools as apps in containers on your own computer. n8n, Gitea, Open WebUI and Ollama are built in at fixed versions, and further apps come from a shelf. It is free, unsigned and an early test version (0.2.0-alpha.8).

Before choosing

  • Early test version (0.2.0-alpha.8): its own pages say many parts do not work properly yet. It has not been tried with a class or on Windows 10, and nobody has looked at its window on a Mac. The Windows installer is unsigned and the macOS programs are not notarized, so Windows warns about an unknown publisher and macOS may refuse to open them at first. The source code is not public. On macOS and Linux you install Podman yourself. Export any work you want to keep.

Biopython

What you can do

  • napari is an open-source Python viewer for n-dimensional scientific images, built for exploring, annotating and combining large microscopy datasets with computational analysis in points, shapes and labels layers. A plugin ecosystem on napari hub adds segmentation, tracking and other domain-specific tools.

Before choosing

  • napari is a Python library and desktop app you install yourself; there is no hosted cloud version.

Cellpose

What you can do

  • Cellpose is an open-source generalist model for segmenting cells and nuclei in microscopy images, distributed as a Python package with a drag-and-drop GUI. The current Cellpose-SAM model runs on CPU or GPU, handles 3D volumes, and supports human-in-the-loop retraining on images the base model gets wrong.

Before choosing

  • GPU is optional but recommended; segmenting many images on CPU alone is slow.

PubMed

What you can do

  • PubMed is the free biomedical literature database run by the US National Library of Medicine. Its Best Match relevance sort uses a machine-learning model on top of term-frequency ranking, and results export to citation managers, plain text, XML or CSV without needing an account; a free My NCBI account adds saved searches and email alerts.

Before choosing

  • Best Match reordering is a relevance aid, not a systematic-review tool; reproducible searches still need documented search terms, not just the default ranking.

What you can do

  • DeepL is a machine translation and writing-assistant service with a web translator, the DeepL Write editing tool, desktop apps, browser extensions and mobile apps. The free plan translates text and one document a month in the browser; paid Pro plans raise the limits, add glossaries, and guarantee submitted text is deleted after translation rather than used for training.

Before choosing

  • Free-plan text is used to train DeepL's models; only paid Pro plans guarantee no training and deletion of submitted text after translation.

Mammouth AI

What you can do

  • Compare responses from multiple AI models in one paid cloud app using one-click reprompting. Draft with uploaded documents, organise chats in projects, search the web, and generate images or videos within plan-dependent usage limits.

Before choosing

  • Official monthly prices checked 20 September 2026: Starter €12, Standard €24, Expert €72, including VAT; the homepage separately advertises from €10/month. Usage is metered, with model fallback and file limits. Mammouth claims no model training, but stores conversation history; its detailed policy permits up to 30 rolling days after deletion and describes possible transfers outside the EEA. These are vendor statements, not independently audited guarantees. No subscription or generation was tested.

Alibaba Open Code Review

BYOKOpen source

What you can do

  • An open-source code-review CLI that reads Git diffs or whole files and produces structured, line-level review comments using a configurable language model or a host coding agent.

Before choosing

  • Apache-2.0 software; model-provider or host-agent costs are separate. Requires Git 2.41 or newer. The CLI runs on your machine or runner, but model-backed review sends code context to the configured provider. Review findings need human assessment; no accuracy or performance benchmark was independently reproduced.

Ornith-1.5-35B-A3B

AI modelsSelf-hosted
Free

What you can do

  • Ornith-1.5-35B-A3B is an open-weight reasoning model for coding, repository work and agents that call tools. Its Qwen3.5-family mixture-of-experts architecture contains about 35 billion parameters but activates roughly 3 billion per token. Ornith describes training that jointly improves task generation, agent scaffolds and solutions through reinforcement learning. The published context window is 262,144 tokens. It is a candidate for developers who want to run a coding assistant on their own infrastructure: the official card documents vLLM and SGLang servers with OpenAI-compatible APIs, plus GGUF use through Ollama or llama.cpp. Start with a small repository task and check the result against your tests before expanding its role.

Before choosing

  • About 3B active parameters describes computation per token, not the memory needed to load the model. The publisher estimates roughly 70 GB for BF16 weights; its 256K serving example uses two 80 GB GPUs. Quantization reduces weight memory, while long contexts need additional memory.
